I went here about a year ago and demanded a refund (and got it) The food was disgusting, sauces were horrible. The man cooking our food accidentally threw a lemon at my head and when I asked for a refill on my drink i saw the guy turn around to bring the drink to me and his nose was less than an inch from the liquid. We came here for a special occasion and I was completely embarassed since I was the one who recommended it.

We went here as a last minute decision on my birthday because we wanted to stay close to home and planned on celebrating the following weekend. BIG MISTAKE! We were seated immediately at a hibachi table and waited about 15 minutes for them to take our drink order. We then waited another 10 minutes for our drinks and the waiter took our dinner order. We ordered a bowl of miso and a side of edamame for my daughter and my husband and I ordered off the hibachi menu.....50 minutes after we have been seated we are still waiting for our food!! At this point, I tell my husband I just want to leave because my 4 year old is hungry (her soup had not even arrived) and was getting restless. I did not blame her since I was feeling the same way. I mean, how long does it take to heat up a bowl of miso and edamame??? It was not that busy, but we were the only ones at the hibachi table. I am not sure if they were trying to fill the table or what, but allowing a guest to wait 50 minutes is ridiculous. As we go to tell the waiter we are leaving, he is bringing out the soup. So, we let our daughter start her soup, ask for a to-go container and ask for the bill. My daughter had ordered an orange juice and wanted to take it with her, so we asked for a to-go cup. He has to ask a few other for containers and then hands me over a soup container!! Really? Now, this is just comical. He tells me not to worry about the bill, he did well enough that night and will deduct our bills from his tips. He just asked that we left him a tip. Being the person I am, I paid my bill and left him a tip because I was just so annoyed that this waiter was so clueless. I have never walked out of a restaurant, but was not going to wait another hour or whatever it would take to eat. Needless to say, WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!! I almost called to complain, but figured that would not make a difference. To bad, because we are new to the area and would have loved to find a Japanese place to frequent.

Four of us showed up Saturday night for dinner. The place was packed and the wait was 45 minutes. We decided to sit at the Sushi bar and deal with an awkward conversation looking down the bar at each other. We ordered different creative roles and had a nother great dinner. Great service, excellent price/value.

We thought this place was great. We were a little skeptical when we walked in and only one other family was there, but the food was great and the hibachi chef was very entertaining. Also, despite the other reviews, I thought the service was great. We would definitely go back.

We've been going to Kyoto for about 10 years. Here's a synopsis.... - good teppanyaki table show and food - great sushi - friendly staff The place could be a little cleaner and the sushi area could be bigger, but this is my favorite local restaurant.

Sushi tasted like store bought kind you can get at any grocery store. Extremely salty. I gave this restaurant a second chance and again was even more disappointed...we couldn't even finish the food that is how bad it was! We had gotten the shrimp tempura roll, Philadelphia roll and spicy tuna roll. Each time they also forgot a side of spicy mayo sauce that I had been charged for.

Had high hopes for this place, since it was a smaller outfit than Sakura and other similar Hibachi places. We went late on Saturday night with a small group, didn't have to wait to long to be seated but waited a good bit of time once we were at the table for the chef to come over. The food was marginal, the filet and shrimp were as expected however the scallops were very under cooked, by the time I realized it, our chef was already gone so I just ate them. Will give them another shot though.

I took my daughter there late on a Tuesday night. It was about 9:30 and the restaurant was very slow. There was only a total of about six people eating. We are greeted right away and we chose to sit at the sushi bar. We're the only ones at the bar. The service was solid but there was nearly no interaction from the sushi chef or anyone else. The food is pretty good as we tried some spicy tuna rolls and a couple of specialty rolls. We also had some nigiri pieces and they were all very good and nicely sized. However, they did not have my favorite choice, squid. I was surprised at the end that the dinner hat the check was nearly hundred dollars as we did not eat a lot.

Food was good. As far as the entertainment...forget about it. There was none of the fun of a steak house. He basically just cooked the food in front of us. At the end he threw 4 peices of shrimp. Yippy skippy...will never go back.

I've eaten here 3 times and want to like it as it's close to my house. The last two times I've eaten here, they did not devein the shrimp. I just feel this place isn't clean. You don't want to chance that with sushi.

Always a favorite. High quality and always fresh food and sushi. Extra star for being so good while being in a strip mall. This place is awesome! Reasonable prices. Sweetest and most humble delightful staff. I would eat there ever week if I could. We always look for a reason to go to Kyoto. I would buy an extra star for $5.00 if Yelp would let me.

I enjoyed the meal and show. My wife I the chicken and I had the chicken and steak. My wife thought the chicken was dry and was not impressed. She felt is was par for the course with Japanese steak houses. I thought for the money that the food was good. When you visit a place like this you expect a ridiculous bill, but the price was reasonable and I was not too disappointed. Also, they give a military discount if that applies to you, just make sure you ask. I would go back, but I do not know if my wife will.

Sushi bar only: I didn't get sick! That's good! Hey, and the sushi wasn't bad either. Honestly, though, this is one of those places that I wouldn't go out of my way for if there was another sushi place closer. They've got you standard rolls, typical Japanese beer, and decent service. Watch out for the other customers though. I got stared down by an 8 year old while I was there. She looked pretty tough, like she might jump me and take my wallet or something. Scary.

Kyoto is decent, just not something to write home about. I have been several times and order the sushi each time. We also order from the hibachi menu. From the six times that I have been, only one has been a low-grade experience, so that's not too bad. The hibachi menu/grill is excellent. The wait staff is not the best. I had a male the last time I went and he was very demotivated and lacked energy.

One of the best meals of my life. Amazing atmosphere and decor. The staff is very friendly, the cooks are very entertaining and the food is delicious!!! I will be coming back as often as I can.

Kyoto is part hibachi steakhouse, and part sushi bar. The hibachi tables certainly put on a good show and take up the bulk of the floor space, but it's the sushi we go back for. We've tried a handful of sushi places in the Annapolis area, and we keep going back to Kyoto. The sushi is *always* fresh. There's a great selection and variety, with a guide on each table as to the precise contents of each roll. The straight salmon sashimi is always my favorite (that's a good indication of how fresh the fish is---with sashimi there's nothing to hide any "off" flavors). There are a number of rolls that are also divine, particularly the rainbow roll and the rock-and-roll. The sushi chefs have a nice sense of artistry; the food is always presented beautifully. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and we've always received our food in good time. Sometimes I like to mix things up with some miso soup, vegetable tempura, or pan-fried dumplings, all of which are quite delicious. The place appears a little bit small and dark, and the menus are a bit worn, but don't be put off---the food and friendly service are excellent.

Okay, this has become one of my favorite sushi places, and it's in Severna Park. Not just my fav, but my wife and sons enjoy it too. We stopped coming for the dog and pony show -- you know, where everything's cooked in front of you then shrimp is tossed up so you can try and gulp it down like a seal. Instead, we go to the sushi area where all the chefs know us by name. The sushi selection is diverse, fresh and the conversations with the fish masters are excellent and genuine. They really love what they do, the customers they do it for and we love what they make. There are too many favorites to mention here, but if you're looking for a place to take the kids or just want to enjoy some of the finest sushi, then Kyoto is a great place for you to try.

  • Tim S.

Great sushi, disappointing service on more than one occasion. It seems that a table for two and/or a carry-out order on a Friday night are not the sweet spot for this place. Next time we go, I will let them know in person. Food is too good to pass up if you're local to the Severna Park area.

  • Suze C.

I am a sushi snob. Ronald is the main sushi chef and is the most amazing sushi chef I've ever encountered, and I've had sushi in many states. If you sit at the sushi bar and slow Ronald to get to know you and your taste, you will not find anything better anywhere else. Ronald's customer service surpasses anything I've ever gotten anywhere else. Tell him what you like and he will make it happen. I have my own custom menu there...

Wife and I checked this place out because of other reviews. I'm a big fan of Japanese Steak houses. This place has good steak and chicken and not much else. Avoid the sushi and appetizers, drinks are a bit expensive too but that's most places. I'll never understand a place that serves warm sushi. I'm certain there are better bang for buck places around Annapolis.. when I find it i'll review. Wait staff and chef were very nice.

My boyfriend and I had been looking for a great place for sushi - you know the place that becomes your sushi hangout. We are happy to say that we found it last night at Kyoto. Service was great and Ronald made a "fantastic" roll which was simply fantastic. If you ever eat there you will understand... We are both looking forward to going back.

This is my favorite place to get sushi. I haven't had a roll there that I didn't like. If you're into more complex rolls I suggest the fugi roll, dynamite roll, incredible roll, garden roll, or iguana roll. But you can't go wrong at kyoto. The people are very friendly! If you go there you have to get a side salad, this may sound odd but it's only 1.50 and they make their own house dressing, you'll be in love at first bite. I hardly even sit at the hibachi tables but the times I've been there it's been great! They have seperate tables for people who just want to eat sushi along with two sushi bars. I highly recommend this place!

Okay so, I'm from L.A. where sushi is awesome but, having lived in Annapolis where the Blue Crab is awesome and sushi is a curse word, I have to give kudos to Kyoto. So we've been to a few places in town that make sushi...not good - some pretty bad. Everyone raves about Joss' Cafe...2nd rate if you ask me. I guess if you don't know better well, yuck. It's like saying you've had good Mexican food when you only have a Taco Bell in town. Mind you, I love Taco Hell...I mean Bell. That being said, my wife and I wanted sushi and of course we had no clue where to go because everything sushi sucks in Annapolis but, lo and behold, a little hole in the wall place at the local strip mall surprised us. No one was there but staff..little scary. Well, we were desperate to get our sushi on...the first two sushi show up...looks good. The Albacore was okay and the Salmon was fresh and delicious. The rice was warm which is kinda weird but forgivable. Next we had the Tucker roll and the Fantastic roll, which the waitress recommended. I can't remember for the life of me what was in them but they were the Americanized version rolls that are really tasty. Tucker - great! Fantastic - wait for it...... - fantastic! The waitress was super nice and gracious. The decor is nicely done. The prices were a bit steep for sushi but that's expected in Annapolis. If you have a hankerin' for sushi this is one place (so far, only one place) where I would recommend sushi in Annapolis - Severna Park actually. Yay!
